Mwinyi urges Muslims to live in harmony with others

Retired President Alhaj Ali Hassan Mwinyi has called upon Muslims in the country to live in peace, love, unity and harmony with people of other religious beliefs.
Mwinyi made the call on Monday night during celebrations to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) held at Mnazi Mmoja grounds in Dar es Salaam.
The celebrations were preceded by special procession called ‘Zafa’ which was organised by Tanzania Muslims Council of Dar es Salaam region under the leadership of Sheikh Alhaj Alhaad Musa.
Mwinyi who graced the celebrations said living peacefully and loving people of other religious beliefs is part of the teachings of the Holy Quran which should be respected and observed.
"We are one people of the same nation, so we should live peacefully and love one another,” said Mwinyi.
He also asked Muslims to improve and maintain unity and solidarity among themselves as an order from God contained in the Holy Quran.
Earlier, the Dar es Salaam regional Sheikh Mussa commended President Jakaya Kikwete for successfully supervising the process of writing the new constitution.
Sheikh Mussa said President Kikwete has guided the process well and all seems well as it nears completion.
Delivering the Maulid message Sheikh Saleh Alhiadari said Islam means peace for all and Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) has encouraged Muslims to be the first ones to safeguard it.
The celebrations were also attended by various government officials and prominent figures including Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare Dr Seif Rashid, Civic United Front (CUF) National Chairman, Prof Ibrahim Lipumba, and NCCR-Mageuzi National Chairman, James Mbatia.
Others were Ilala legislator, Mussa Zungu, Commissioner of Constitutional Review Commission Said El- Maamri and IPP Executive Chairman Dr Reginald Mengi.
Meanwhile Kigoma regional Sheikh Hasan Idi Kigurwa has called upon Muslims to shun religious hatred in order to strengthen peace.
Kigurwa said true Muslims are those who offer assistance to the needy, visit sick people, widows and the elderly.
He was speaking in Kigoma yesterday during celebrations to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)
Sheikh Kiguruwa said Muslims were marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad due to his contribution in the liberation of human beings.
He called upon Muslims to abide by religious ethics in order to build respect for their religion.
